Trophy vanishes from Black Pudding Throwing Championships

The trophy for the official Black Pudding Throwing Championships went missing during the event on Sunday, leading organisers to appeal for its return.

  • The trophy disappeared from the prize table between 11:40 and 13:30 BST on Sunday.
  • Organisers are appealing for the trophy's return "with no questions asked."
  • June Weir, 73, became the first female champion in the event's 100-year history.

Celebrations for the official Black Pudding Throwing Championships were reportedly "subdued" after the trophy disappeared during the event, organisers have stated. The annual competition, held at The Oak pub in Ramsbottom, Bury, saw June Weir, 73, from Wilpshire, Lancashire, become the first female champion in its 100-year history.

Organiser Paul Jenkins said the trophy went missing from the prize table between 11:40 and 13:30 BST on Sunday. He is now appealing for its return "with no questions asked."

Mr Jenkins noted that while the plastic cup had little monetary value, its disappearance "hit a nerve" with the community as it was named after Phil Taylor, a long-time organiser who died last year.
