Tropical Storm Dolly is moving quickly across the Atlantic Ocean towards the Leeward Islands and is expected to bring significant rainfall to parts of the Caribbean this weekend, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported on Friday morning.
As of Friday, Dolly, which formed on Thursday, had maximum sustained winds of near 40mph (65km/h) with higher gusts. The NHC warned that heavy rain from Dolly could affect the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday, with rainfall moving into the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola on Sunday and Monday.
This heavy rain may produce flash flooding within areas of higher terrain of the Leeward Islands. No coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect.
