Tropical Storm Edouard is heading towards the US Gulf Coast and is expected to gain strength before bringing potentially heavy rains and flooding to parts of Texas and Louisiana. Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) anticipate the storm will make landfall in Texas later on Tuesday.
The storm was upgraded from a tropical depression on Monday night. Early on Tuesday, it was located about 65 miles south-south-east of Cameron, Louisiana, and 90 miles south-east of Port Arthur, Texas, with maximum sustained winds of 40mph.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that flooding is the biggest problem expected from the storm. The NHC is anticipating 3-6 inches of rain in the greater Houston area, with some areas of the state's upper coast potentially receiving up to 9 inches. More than 4 inches per hour could fall, likely causing flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas.
