Trump to convene cabinet at Camp David amid ongoing Iran conflict

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a cabinet meeting at Camp David today, as he addresses the ongoing war with Iran and rising gasoline prices.

  • President Trump will convene a cabinet meeting at Camp David today to discuss the war against Iran.
  • The conflict with Iran, now five months old, has led to increased gasoline prices and a decline in Trump's popularity.
  • A recent Reuters-Ipsos poll indicates that only one in three Americans support the war.

US President Donald Trump is set to convene a cabinet meeting today at his Camp David retreat. The agenda is expected to focus heavily on foreign policy, particularly the ongoing conflict with Iran, which the president initially projected would last only a few weeks but is now five months old.

The war with Iran has contributed to spiraling gasoline prices and a decline in President Trump's popularity across the US. A Reuters-Ipsos poll this week found that only one in three Americans support the war, marking the lowest support since the conflict began.

This will be President Trump's third visit to Camp David during his second term. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated last week that this would be the 13th Cabinet meeting of Trump’s second term.

In other foreign policy news, President Trump announced on Thursday that his "Board of Peace" had reached an agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas militants and other armed groups in Gaza. Israel has not yet officially responded to this plan.

Why this matters: The ongoing conflict with Iran and its impact on gasoline prices are significant issues ahead of the November midterm elections.
