US President Donald Trump has frequently recounted the September 11 al-Qaida attacks, which occurred almost 25 years ago in his home city of New York. However, his recollections have consistently featured exaggerations and falsehoods, including an anecdote shared this week at a White House event commemorating the attacks.
Among the claims is Trump's assertion that his 40 Wall Street property became the tallest building in downtown Manhattan following the World Trade Center's destruction. This was inaccurate, as 70 Pine Street held that distinction.
Trump has also repeatedly stated he assisted with the recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site. A New York City fire department battalion chief interviewed in 2019 did not recall Trump sending any workers to the site.
More recently, during a White House ceremony on Tuesday, Trump claimed firefighters carried him from lower Manhattan due to concerns that One Liberty Plaza would collapse. While there were stability concerns about One Liberty Plaza, prompting evacuations, there is no evidence Trump was present, and his claim of bringing workers to the site is unsupported.
