Donald Trump's scope of interests has reportedly narrowed to a few areas, including remaking downtown Washington DC, wars he thinks he can win, and golf. Sports is another subject that continues to preoccupy him, and in this area, his administration has reportedly made more gains than in other areas.

The administration's policies, such as travel bans and visa curbs, are said to have made it harder for foreign students and college athletes to come to and stay in the US. This has reportedly led to college sports becoming more homogeneous. For example, Venezuelan international David Martínez left Los Angeles FC for FC Midtjylland partly because his family could not get visas to visit him.

Trump has also issued an executive order to protect the Army-Navy football game's exclusive TV time slot. This was in response to the College Football Playoff's expansion, which threatened to encroach on the second Saturday of December, traditionally reserved for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy.
