Kostas Tsimikas is set to captain Liverpool for the first time as the Reds face Austrian side LASK in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Greek left-back, who scored the winning penalty in the 2022 FA Cup final, will wear the armband with Virgil van Dijk starting on the bench.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola had previously named Alisson Becker as his vice-captain following the departures of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson. However, Iraola explained that goalkeepers would not wear the armband on the pitch due to new rules limiting their ability to speak with the referee.
Iraola confirmed in August that Dominik Szoboszlai and Joe Gomez were also among his vice-captains. Szoboszlai remains injured, while Gomez is on the bench for the match against LASK. Tsimikas, who joined Liverpool in 2020, is the longest-serving outfield player starting for the Reds in Austria.
