England manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed a unique regret from last summer's World Cup campaign, wishing he had eaten some grass after the memorable 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico. The last-16 tie saw England triumph with 10 men in Mexico City, a performance Tuchel described as creating a deep bond with his squad.
Tuchel shared his feelings in an interview for the Football Association, stating, "I texted a friend after the match and I just wrote, I regret that I didn’t eat some grass after the match to keep something from this in my body forever. That was the feeling. That was the moment." He also highlighted the squad's togetherness when Jordan Henderson broke his arm during celebrations, with players immediately forming a protective shield around him.
Looking ahead, Tuchel aims to carry this spirit into the Euro 2028 qualifiers and the tournament itself, which England will co-host. England's upcoming fixtures include hosting world champions Spain in the Uefa Nations League, as well as away games against Croatia and home and away matches against the Czech Republic. Tuchel is expected to name his squad for these matches on Friday.
