England head coach Thomas Tuchel has announced his first squad since the World Cup, with changes made ahead of the Nations League. Tuchel stated that 99.9% of supporters he has met since the World Cup discuss positive memories, such as knockout wins over Mexico and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, rather than his substitutions during the semi-final against Argentina.
However, some fans are reportedly not ready to move on from England's defeat to Argentina, where they lost after going 1-0 up early in the second half. Tuchel, who was proud of England's 6-4 win over France for the bronze medal, is now focusing on the upcoming Nations League fixtures.
The new squad for matches against Spain, Czechia, and Croatia sees Noni Madueke, Ollie Watkins, and Ivan Toney dropped from the 26 players selected in the summer. Injuries to Dean Henderson, Dan Burn, John Stones, Reece James, Djed Spence, and Jordan Henderson have created opportunities for new players.
Notable inclusions are Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had not been selected since June 2025, Alex Scott, and Cole Palmer. Tuchel has indicated he does not intend to use Alexander-Arnold, 27, as a midfielder. He also stated that earning a call-up must be followed by performing in an England shirt.
Tuchel acknowledged an oversight in not properly considering Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo during the World Cup and stated he has a duty to look at him this time. England will begin their Nations League campaign with a home game against Spain next Saturday.
