Tugendhat to replace Patel as Shadow Foreign Secretary in Badenoch reshuffle

Tom Tugendhat is set to become the new Shadow Foreign Secretary, replacing Dame Priti Patel, as part of an upcoming reshuffle by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch.

  • Tom Tugendhat will replace Dame Priti Patel as Shadow Foreign Secretary.
  • Dame Priti Patel is taking on a new role focused on strengthening international links with sister parties.
  • The reshuffle is expected in the coming weeks and will also address the departure of Sir James Cleverly.

Tom Tugendhat is expected to replace Dame Priti Patel as Shadow Foreign Secretary, according to BBC News. He will return to the Conservative front bench when Kemi Badenoch conducts a reshuffle of her team next month.

Dame Priti announced on social media that she would be leaving the front bench to take up a new role focused on strengthening "links with sister parties and centre right movements around the world." She stated it had been an honour to lead the party's foreign affairs team for the past two years and confirmed she would continue to serve as the MP for Witham.

This reshuffle follows the resignation of Shadow Housing Secretary Sir James Cleverly, who stepped down to run for London mayor. A wider reshuffle had also been anticipated due to Shadow Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho's upcoming maternity leave.
