The Royal Windsor Horse Show recently hosted a delegation from Turkmenistan, including the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. His presence at the prestigious event on 16th May in London served to highlight both Turkmenistan's deep-rooted equestrian heritage and its diplomatic engagement with the United Kingdom.
During his visit, Mr Berdimuhamedov engaged in high-level discussions, meeting with His Majesty King Charles III and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. These meetings underscore the ongoing efforts to foster cultural and diplomatic relationships between the two nations, using shared interests such as equestrianism as a platform for dialogue.
A key aspect of Turkmenistan's participation was the showcasing of its national display, which featured the revered Akhal-Teke horse breed. Considered a national treasure, the Akhal-Teke breed's exhibition generated considerable interest among attendees, reinforcing Turkmenistan's enduring traditions in horse breeding. Mr Berdimuhamedov himself visited the stand, observing the strong engagement from the public.
Further discussions took place with His Majesty's Ambassador, Mr Stephen Conlon, where the significance of the Royal Windsor Horse Show as a global platform for equestrian excellence was emphasised. Mr Berdimuhamedov also expressed a keen desire for Akhal-Teke horses to participate in future editions of the event, including the show scheduled for next year, indicating a potential for increased Turkmen involvement in British equestrian events.
