Two people have been charged after an incident on 31 July in Avonmouth, near Bristol, which Avon and Somerset Police have recorded as a hate crime. Three Filipino men, who are ship workers, were assaulted during an attack involving a large group of people.
One of the three men is in a critical condition in hospital, while another has been discharged. The third man did not require hospital treatment.
Kurtis Ranklin, 45, from Southmead, has been accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named due to his age, has been accused of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The pair are expected to appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Police said that two other people arrested in connection with the incident have been released on conditional bail as enquiries continue. Officers confirmed on Sunday that reports of racist language being used during the incident were received. Emergency services were called to Richmond Terrace, close to Avonmouth Docks, at about 20:30 BST.
Ranklin's charge relates to the injuries sustained by the man who remains in a critical condition. The 17-year-old's charge relates to the man who was discharged from hospital. Stand Against Racism & Inequality (SARI) is providing support to the injured men, according to police.
