Two charged with drug trafficking after 180kg cocaine seizure

A man and a woman have been charged with international drug trafficking offences following the seizure of over 180kg of cocaine in the UK.

  • Oladipupo Atandare, 50, and Latifat Yusuf, 44, were charged after a 180kg cocaine seizure on 5 August.
  • The arrests are part of an investigation involving police in the UK and Nigeria.
  • They are due to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 7 September.

Oladipupo Atandare, 50, from Dagenham, and Latifat Yusuf, 44, from Hornchurch, have been charged with international drug trafficking offences. Their arrests followed the seizure of more than 180kg (397lb) of cocaine in the UK on 5 August.

The Metropolitan Police stated that the charges relate solely to the UK drug seizure. However, inquiries are ongoing into the discovery of a similar amount of cocaine in Nigeria.

Nigerian authorities reported on Tuesday that they found 184.5kg of cocaine, valued at approximately £20m, at a courier facility in Lagos. Several arrests have been made in Nigeria, including a logistics company employee and a social media influencer.

Mr Atandare and Ms Yusuf appeared at Barkingside Magistrates Court on 8 August and were remanded in custody. They are scheduled to appear next at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 7 September.
