Rahman Salehi, 35, and Salam Ahmadyan, 36, have been charged with preparing to commit an act of terrorism or assisting another to commit an act of terrorism. The charges relate to an alleged terror plot targeting Manchester's Jewish community.
Vicki Evans, senior national coordinator for counter-terrorism police (CTP), stated that the investigation has led to the disruption of what is believed to have been a plot. Frank Ferguson, head of the CPS’s special crime and counter-terrorism division, confirmed the decision to prosecute following a counter-terrorism policing investigation in Greater Manchester.
The men were arrested on 20 September in Newton Street, Manchester, on the eve of Yom Kippur. They were subsequently held in custody at a London police station. Searches were also carried out at properties in Liverpool and Salford.
Salehi and Ahmadyan are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 3 October.
