Two soldiers have been taken into custody following an incident where a military vehicle allegedly caused damage to several private cars at Swinton Barracks in Wiltshire. The arrests were made by the Royal Military Police after a 15-tonne Bulldog armoured vehicle was reportedly driven around the base, part of the Tidworth Garrison, in the early hours of Friday, 24 July 2026.
Footage shared online depicted the military vehicle being operated within the barracks grounds on Perham Down. The video subsequently showed a number of badly dented cars, suggesting significant impact from the armoured personnel carrier. The Bulldog, which measures over 2.7 metres wide and 5.2 metres long, is capable of reaching speeds up to 32 miles per hour.
An Army spokesperson confirmed the arrests and stated that a full investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The spokesperson emphasised the high standards expected from all military personnel, adding that no further comment would be made while the investigation is ongoing. The barracks is home to the 26 Engineer Regiment.
The incident has raised questions about conduct within military bases and the security protocols surrounding the operation of heavy vehicles.
