A tragic diving incident at Loch Fyne in Argyll and Bute on Sunday afternoon has resulted in the deaths of two women in their twenties. Police Scotland confirmed they were alerted to a "report of concern" for two female divers at approximately 3:30 PM on 25 July 2026.
Emergency services, including Coastguard Rescue Teams from Crinan, Dunoon, Kames, and Inveraray, along with lifeboats from Tignabruich, Campbeltown, and Largs, were immediately deployed to the scene at St Catherines, Cairndow. A Coastguard helicopter also assisted in the extensive search and rescue operation.
One woman, aged 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. The body of the second diver, aged 24, was subsequently recovered from the water after further searches were carried out by the combined emergency teams.
Police Scotland has stated that the deaths are currently being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place in due course to determine the cause of death for both individuals. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
