UEFA Prepares Criminal Complaint Against FIFA President Infantino

UEFA is preparing to file a legal complaint in Switzerland against FIFA President Gianni Infantino, alleging "criminal mismanagement" over a failed World Cup sell-off plan.

  • UEFA announced it is preparing a legal complaint against Gianni Infantino in Switzerland.
  • The complaint alleges "criminal mismanagement" related to Infantino's role in the abandoned Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal.
  • UEFA is seeking disclosure of documents in US courts to support potential criminal charges in Switzerland.

UEFA has announced it is preparing to make a legal complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Switzerland. The complaint alleges "criminal mismanagement" concerning his role in the failed World Cup sell-off plan.

This development comes as national football federation and club executives gathered in Monte Carlo for the Champions League draw. UEFA had previously withdrawn a proposed boycott of FIFA competitions, allowing European teams to participate in upcoming Women's World Cup events.

The first step in UEFA's legal process involves seeking disclosure of documents in the United States related to the abandoned Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal. UEFA described the FFE proposal as having an "absurdly low enterprise value of only approximately $20bn" (£14.7bn).

UEFA has made court filings in New York, Florida, and Colorado to obtain papers that may be submitted to Swiss courts in pursuit of criminal charges. The organisation has been pursuing the valuation issue since Infantino withdrew the FFE plan.
