Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin has confirmed he will not seek the top position at Fifa, despite widespread efforts to oust current president Gianni Infantino. Ceferin, one of Fifa's most vocal critics, stated his commitment to Uefa and the belief that his credibility is higher by not pursuing the role.
Infantino is reportedly fighting to save his job after a leaked plan to partly privatise the World Cup earlier this month sparked significant outrage. He has resisted calls to step down from Europe, Asia, and North America.
While Ceferin will not be a challenger, he insists a rival candidate will emerge if Infantino continues to hold power. Canadian Victor Montagliani, head of the Concacaf union, has been mentioned as a potential alternative.
Ceferin suggested that Infantino may realise he lacks support from the broader football community, including fans, players, and coaches. He added that if Infantino proceeds to the elections in March, he expects a candidate to stand against him.
