UFC fighter Ian Machado Garry has stated that transitioning to a vegan, plant-based diet five years ago was crucial to his career progression. The 28-year-old Irishman will compete for the welterweight title against Islam Makhachev at UFC 330 in Philadelphia on 15 August.

Machado Garry explained that he struggled with his physical health and immune system during weight cutting before adopting the plant-based diet. He claims the dietary change has since improved his weight management, recovery, rest, and training output, enabling him to take short-notice fights.

Beyond his athletic performance, Machado Garry has also become an advocate for animal welfare and environmental causes, partnering with animal rights charity Peta. He aims to use his platform to raise awareness about the impact of dietary choices on the planet.
