Several major UK airports are experiencing continued delays and cancellations today, 9 September, following a significant air traffic control technical failure on Tuesday, 8 September. National Air Traffic Services (NATS) has resolved the issue, which affected its flight processing system, but disruption is expected to persist as airlines and airports address the backlog.
Heathrow Airport was particularly affected, with arrivals suspended for much of Tuesday. The airport has stated that disruption will continue and advises passengers to check directly with their airline before travelling. A statement on Heathrow's X account confirmed flights are operating today, but some disruption may occur as aircraft and crew are repositioned.
Around 177 flights scheduled for Wednesday, 9 September, have already been cancelled, with the majority at Heathrow. Further delays and cancellations are anticipated as a result of aircraft and crew displacement from Tuesday's disruption.
