Heavy rain and gales will batter the UK this week, with the Met Office warning of travel disruption and flooding as unsettled weather sweeps across all four nations.
England faces the heaviest downpours mid-week, particularly across the South West and North West. Cumbria and Lancashire could see rainfall totals that trigger localised flooding, especially where ground remains waterlogged from recent deluges. Southern England will endure frequent heavy showers, with temperatures dropping to 8-12°C and feeling colder in the wind.
Wales will bear the brunt of both rain and wind, with western areas worst hit. Coastal regions face gusts of 50-60mph alongside torrential downpours, threatening ferry services and creating treacherous driving conditions. Temperatures will struggle to reach 7-11°C.
Scotland's Highlands and Islands will experience the strongest winds, with gusts potentially exceeding 60mph in exposed northern and western coastal areas. Central and eastern Scotland will see mixed sunshine and showers, with temperatures ranging from 5-9°C.
Northern Ireland expects heavy rain and strong winds, particularly hitting County Antrim and County Down. Travel disruption and localised flooding remain likely, with temperatures between 7-10°C.
The Met Office urges residents to secure loose outdoor items and drive with extreme caution due to surface water and crosswinds. Non-essential travel should be avoided in the worst-affected areas during peak warning periods.
