The UK has committed £100m to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences for the winter period, providing a package of military equipment that includes Patriot missiles. This contribution will also supply defence interceptors, large-calibre artillery rounds, and drones to Ukraine via Nato’s prioritised requirements list.
Military experts indicate that supplies of Patriot missiles, used against aircraft, cruise missiles, and tactical ballistic missiles, have diminished in Ukraine, leading to a reported decrease in the interception of Russian attacks.
UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting is scheduled to co-chair his inaugural meeting of the Ukraine defence contact group today with German counterpart Boris Pistorius. This group comprises approximately 50 nations supplying military equipment to Kyiv.
Streeting stated that the UK is delivering on a promise to mobilise allies and provide more support, aiming to strengthen Ukraine’s defences. Prime Minister Andy Burnham discussed the conflict with US President Donald Trump on Monday, with both leaders agreeing on the need for a ceasefire to prevent further loss of life. US envoys also held talks in Kyiv on Sunday, described as encouraging but without a breakthrough, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested the war would continue into winter.
