The UK has pledged £100 million towards an air defence package for Ukraine, which will include Patriot missiles and other air defence equipment. This support is intended to be delivered before the winter to help Ukraine defend its critical national infrastructure, civilians, and armed forces from Russian attacks.
The funding is a contribution to NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL). Defence Secretary Wes Streeting MP stated that both he and the Prime Minister heard from President Zelenskyy on the importance of additional support for Ukraine through the winter.
The UK will also supply air defence interceptors, large-calibre artillery rounds, and drones. Britain's commitment to provide over 120,000 drones to Ukraine this year continues, with 25,000 delivered so far. Additionally, the UK will deliver tens of thousands of long-range artillery rounds in the coming months, with funding from Britain, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.
Defence Secretary Wes Streeting MP co-chaired the 36th Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius. The group, comprising nearly 50 nations, focuses on Ukraine’s urgent battlefield requirements and aims to sustain long-term military support.
