The UK Government has announced details of a package offered to the Northern Ireland Executive, valued at over £1.5 billion. Sir Chris Bryant, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, confirmed the details following discussions with parties in the Executive and the Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
The package includes £1.25 billion in extra funding for the Executive over three years. It also allocates £150 million for the transformation of public services, £100 million for social housing, and £75 million to address fraud and error within the benefit system.
Sir Chris Bryant urged the parties to accept the support and agree a budget to end the uncertainty surrounding public services in Northern Ireland. He stated that the package represents a significant contribution from the UK Government to assist the Executive in agreeing a budget, despite intense pressure on the UK Exchequer.
