UK-Iranian National Arrested on Terrorism Offences Near RAF Fairford

A dual UK-Iranian national has been arrested in Westminster on suspicion of terrorism offences, linked to an investigation near RAF Fairford. A second man has been questioned under caution.

Counter-terrorism police have arrested a dual UK-Iranian national in Westminster on suspicion of terrorism offences. The arrest is part of an investigation into a suspected plot near RAF Fairford.

The 27-year-old man was arrested on Thursday under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts. Additionally, a 26-year-old UK national has been questioned under caution.

Vicki Evans, the senior national co-ordinator for counter-terrorism police, stated that all possible angles, including potential foreign state involvement, are being examined. Searches of two properties in Westminster have also been undertaken.

This follows the arrest of five men in their 20s in Whelford, Gloucestershire, near the RAF base on Sunday. They were released on police bail after suspicious vans were reported in the area.
