UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific Rosie Winterton is undertaking her first overseas visit to Cambodia, travelling to Siem Reap, Oddar Meanchey, and Phnom Penh. The visit aims to promote peaceful dialogue and underscore the UK's commitment to sustainable peace and prosperity in the region.
During her visit, Minister Winterton will observe UK-funded education programmes supporting children displaced by the Thailand-Cambodia border conflict. She will also meet demining experts from UK charities HALO Trust and Apopo, highlighting over three decades of UK support for humanitarian mine clearance in Cambodia. The UK announced an additional £1.6 million in May for mine clearance and risk education.
In Phnom Penh, the Minister is expected to meet Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to discuss the partnership between the two countries and future priorities. The visit also includes plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen educational cooperation, knowledge exchange, and skills development.
