The UK presents numerous appealing destinations for solo travellers, according to Lydia Swinscoe, a solo travel expert for Independent Travel. Swinscoe suggests that the UK offers a less daunting option than countries with different languages and can be more affordable with advance or last-minute bookings.

Among the recommendations are Rye and Dungeness in East Sussex, praised for their unique scenery and connection to filmmaker Derek Jarman. Rye's cobbled streets and independent cinema are noted, while Dungeness is described as ideal for photography. Accommodation options include Aviemore Rye from £130 per night and The Gallivant from £245.

Bakewell in Derbyshire is highlighted for its local cuisine, such as Bakewell pudding and Derbyshire oatcakes, and its atmospheric hikes in the Peak District. The YHA Ravenstor offers en-suite rooms from £45.90 per night, and a cottage in Youlegrave is available from £166 per night.

Bath, Somerset, is recommended for its Georgian architecture, Roman Baths, and culinary scene, including the Michelin-starred Olive Tree restaurant. The Z Hotel offers rooms from £45 per night, while The Queensbury starts from £148 per night. Glasgow, Scotland, is also featured for its vibrant arts and culture scene, particularly its street art.

What this means for you: If you are planning a solo trip within the UK, consider destinations like Rye, Dungeness, Bakewell, Bath, or Glasgow, which are highlighted for various interests and offer diverse accommodation options.
