Temperatures could hit 24°C across England this week as the Met Office forecasts a prolonged period of sunshine and settled weather extending through the bank holiday weekend.
High pressure will dominate the UK, bringing largely dry conditions and steadily climbing temperatures. London and the South East are set for the warmest weather, with temperatures potentially reaching 23-24°C and light winds below 10mph.
The Midlands and northern England will enjoy plenty of sunshine with temperatures in the high teens to low 20s. Scotland and Northern Ireland will see brighter spells, with eastern areas potentially hitting 18-20°C, though western parts may face occasional cloud and intermittent showers, particularly in the Highlands and islands. Wales is forecast to benefit from ample sunshine, with temperatures ranging from 18-22°C.
Western coastal areas in Scotland and Northern Ireland may see more cloud cover or light rain at the start of the week before conditions improve more broadly. For most regions, the forecast points to prolonged dry spells and increased daytime warmth, with mild overnight temperatures.
The Met Office advises the public to take sensible precautions during the warmer weather, including applying high-factor sunscreen, wearing hats and sunglasses, and staying hydrated when spending time outdoors. Those planning activities near water should exercise caution and be aware of potential hazards.
The settled conditions are expected to persist well into next week, providing ideal weather for the upcoming bank holiday weekend after what has been a changeable spring.
