Britain is set to bask in early summer sunshine next week as a high-pressure system brings rising temperatures and widespread clear skies ahead of the bank holiday weekend.
The Met Office forecasts temperatures will climb steadily through the week, with parts of England potentially hitting the low to mid-20s Celsius by midweek. Southern and central England will see the warmest conditions, with minimal cloud cover and light winds below 10-15mph – a marked shift from recent cooler spring weather.
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will also benefit from the improving conditions. Whilst temperatures may not reach southern peaks, these regions are forecast plenty of dry, bright spells with daytime highs in the high teens to low 20s Celsius and gentle breezes.
The settled weather creates ideal conditions for those planning outdoor activities during the long weekend. However, the Met Office advises sun safety precautions – use sun cream, wear hats and stay hydrated as UV levels are expected to be moderate.
The bank holiday weekend outlook remains largely positive, with current models suggesting continued dry weather and pleasant temperatures across most regions, though some local cloud variations cannot be ruled out.
This early taste of summer comes as a high-pressure system dominates Britain's atmospheric conditions, blocking unsettled weather fronts. The system's persistence suggests sustained fine conditions – a welcome boost as families head into the long weekend.
