Temperatures could hit 24°C across southern England this week as the Met Office forecasts widespread sunshine and an early taste of summer conditions ahead of the bank holiday weekend.
London and the South East are expected to see the warmest weather, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-20s by week's end. The Midlands and northern England will also enjoy bright spells, with temperatures reaching the high teens to low 20s.
Scotland and Northern Ireland are set to benefit from the improved conditions, though temperatures will be slightly cooler at 15°C to 19°C. Wales could see mercury hit 20°C in western and central areas.
Light to moderate winds of 5-15 mph across the UK will add to the feeling of warmth. The Met Office warns of possible isolated showers in western areas early in the week, but these won't significantly impact the predominantly sunny outlook.
With moderate UV levels expected, forecasters are advising the public to take sun precautions including wearing sunscreen, hats and sunglasses, particularly during midday hours. The warm spell provides ideal conditions for outdoor activities, though staying hydrated remains important.
The settled weather marks a welcome change after a mixed start to spring, offering an optimistic forecast for outdoor plans over the long weekend. The Met Office will continue updating forecasts, but current indications suggest largely dry, bright and warm conditions for most of the UK.
