Temperatures could reach 24°C across parts of England next week as the Met Office forecasts a sustained period of sunshine and warmth extending into the early May bank holiday weekend.
The mercury is expected to climb into the low to mid-20s across England and Wales by mid-week, with southern and central England seeing the highest temperatures. Northern England will also enjoy pleasant conditions, with temperatures widely reaching the high teens.
Scotland and Northern Ireland will benefit from the improved weather, with good spells of sunshine and temperatures comfortably in the mid to high teens. Coastal areas, particularly in the east, may experience slightly cooler conditions due to onshore breezes.
The forecast marks a significant change from the unsettled and cooler conditions experienced throughout much of April. The Met Office attributes the shift to a high-pressure system building across the UK, drawing in warmer air from the continent.
With increased sunshine levels, the Met Office has reminded the public to be mindful of UV levels, which will be moderate to high in direct sunlight. Officials advise wearing sunscreen and hats, and seeking shade between 11am and 3pm. Pet owners should ensure animals have access to shade and fresh water.
The warm and settled conditions are likely to persist through the early May bank holiday weekend, making it ideal for outdoor activities. However, the Met Office will continue providing updates as the weekend approaches.
