Temperatures across the UK will soar to 26C this week as a high-pressure system brings the first proper taste of summer after weeks of cooler, unsettled weather.
Wednesday will be the hottest day, with southern England and particularly the South East set to record peak temperatures. Most regions will enjoy consistent warmth in the low to mid-20s, with London and surrounding areas reaching the mid-20s and potentially hitting 26C midweek. Manchester and other northern English cities will see temperatures climb to 20-23C.
Scotland and Northern Ireland will also benefit from the warmer spell, though temperatures will be more modest. Glasgow and Edinburgh can expect around 18-20C, with Belfast seeing similar conditions. Wales will enjoy temperatures of 20-22C, with Cardiff amongst areas basking in the improved weather.
The warm spell comes as a high-pressure system builds across Britain, drawing continental air northwards. Conditions will be largely sunny with light winds typically below 15mph, though western and northern areas may catch isolated showers towards the weekend as the high pressure begins to shift.
The Met Office has issued no heat warnings but advises people to stay hydrated and be aware of increased UV levels during sunny periods. The change marks a welcome relief for those who have endured recent cooler conditions and offers an early glimpse of proper summer weather.
