The UK Space Agency has unveiled a £20 million funding pot for innovative space projects, offering grants to UK-based research and development ventures that show immense market potential. In its latest call for proposals, the National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP) aims to drive cutting-edge technologies, applications, and services in the sector.
NSIP operates through two distinct funding schemes: NSIP Kick Starter and NSIP Major Projects. These initiatives provide comprehensive support for innovation, guiding projects from conception to commercialisation, fostering a robust ecosystem for space innovation within the UK.
Early-stage projects can apply for grants under the Kick Starter scheme, ranging from £150,000 to £1,000,000. These projects typically focus on highly disruptive or novel proposals at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 1-4, aiming to reshape the space sector.
More advanced projects are eligible for funding under the Major Projects scheme, which offers grants between £150,000 and £2,000,000. These initiatives aim to achieve higher TRLs, from 5 to 9, with a focus on commercialisation and attracting further investment to bring innovative products and services to market.
Prospective applicants must submit their outline proposals exclusively through the Flexigrant portal by 11:59pm on Friday 21 August 2026. Emailed applications will not be considered, so it's essential that applicants adhere to the application process for Call 3, which closely aligns with requirements from NSIP Call 2.
