The UK's satellite communications industry is on the cusp of a revolution, with the UK Space Agency today announcing a £42 million funding round to drive innovation in crucial technologies. The move comes as the sector experiences unprecedented transformation driven by high-volume constellations and growing demand for scalable infrastructure.
As part of the Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit (C-LEO) Programme, this significant investment aims to propel the development of key technologies such as regenerative processing, advanced networking and routing, active antennas, optical links, and sophisticated user terminals. The UK Space Agency has identified a critical need to industrialise these capabilities to maintain a competitive edge globally.
UK industry is invited to submit proposals with a minimum grant funding request of £5 million from the UK Space Agency. A core requirement for eligibility under the programme is the inclusion of significant matched funding within each project, as detailed in the programme documentation.
The application window opened today and will close on Monday 7 September 2026 at 12:00 pm UK time. Applicants will be notified of Stage One outcomes by Friday 2 October 2026, with a further submission deadline for Stage Two forms set for Wednesday 11 November 2026. Final notifications are expected by Wednesday 16 December 2026.
