The UK has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the climate crisis by supporting a UN General Assembly resolution on the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on climate change.
Ambassador Archie Young, the UK's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, explained the country's decision in a statement to the General Assembly.
The ICJ's Advisory Opinion highlighted the need for urgent international action to mitigate the effects of climate change and protect the rights of individuals and communities affected by its impacts.
The UN General Assembly resolution, adopted on 30 November 2022, welcomed the ICJ's Advisory Opinion and called on states to take immediate action to address the climate crisis.
In his statement, Ambassador Young said: 'The UK is committed to taking action on climate change and promoting international cooperation to address this global challenge.' He added that the UK had already made significant progress in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and would continue to work with other countries to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The UK's decision to support the resolution reflects its commitment to addressing the climate crisis and promoting international cooperation to achieve this goal.
