Warmer weather is expected across the United Kingdom over the next few days, with temperatures anticipated to peak at around 25C. While many areas will see temperatures climb into the low 20s Celsius, this will not be warm enough to be classified as an official heatwave.
High pressure is building, leading to more settled and brighter conditions. After a chilly start on Monday, temperatures in much of England and Wales will rise into the low 20s. Scotland and Northern Ireland will also turn warmer, with highs reaching 18 to 22C.
Temperatures could reach 24 or 25C in south-east England, and the low 20s Celsius in many other parts of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Eastern Scotland. The Met Office defines a heatwave as temperatures reaching 26 to 28C for three consecutive days, a threshold not expected to be met this week.
Rain is possible on Tuesday as a weather front moves into western Scotland and the west of Northern Ireland, becoming more substantial by Wednesday across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and western England. Drier and warmer conditions are likely to persist in east and south-east England, with temperatures again reaching the mid-20s Celsius.
