A severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for heavy rainfall and strong winds, affecting England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The warning comes into effect from 6am on Friday and will remain in place until 9pm on Saturday.
According to the Met Office, the worst affected regions are expected to be the north-west of England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, where up to 100mm of rainfall is predicted in some areas. The strong winds are expected to reach gusts of up to 60mph in exposed areas.
Residents are advised to take precautions to stay safe, including securing any loose outdoor items that could become projectiles in strong winds. They are also advised to avoid traveling unless necessary and to keep an eye on the weather forecast for updates.
In England, the south-west and west of the country are also expected to experience heavy rainfall, with up to 50mm predicted in some areas. The north-east of England is expected to experience strong winds, with gusts of up to 50mph predicted.
In Scotland, the Highlands and Islands are expected to experience the worst of the weather, with up to 150mm of rainfall predicted in some areas. The strong winds are expected to reach gusts of up to 70mph in exposed areas.
In Wales, the south and west of the country are expected to experience heavy rainfall, with up to 50mm predicted in some areas. The north-east of Wales is expected to experience strong winds, with gusts of up to 50mph predicted.
In Northern Ireland, the north and west of the country are expected to experience the worst of the weather, with up to 100mm of rainfall predicted in some areas. The strong winds are expected to reach gusts of up to 60mph in exposed areas.
The Met Office has issued the following temperature and wind speed forecasts for the affected regions:
- North-west England: temperatures of 10-12°C, winds of 40-50mph
- Scotland: temperatures of 8-10°C, winds of 50-60mph
- Northern Ireland: temperatures of 10-12°C, winds of 40-50mph
- Wales: temperatures of 10-12°C, winds of 30-40mph
