Temperatures will climb into the mid-20s across southern England next week as warmer air sweeps across the UK, though the Met Office says conditions will fall short of an official heatwave.
The South East is forecast to see the highest temperatures, potentially reaching 25C, whilst other parts of England can expect the low 20s. The mercury will feel significantly warmer than recent weeks, but won't meet the sustained high temperature criteria needed for a heatwave declaration, which varies by region and requires multiple consecutive days of extreme heat.
Wales will see temperatures reach the low 20s, particularly in eastern areas. Scotland is forecast high teens to low 20s, with the sunniest conditions expected across central and eastern parts. Northern Ireland will experience temperatures in the high teens, marking a welcome change from recent cooler conditions.
The warmer spell comes as atmospheric patterns shift, allowing warmer air to move across Britain. Whilst the Met Office isn't issuing heat health alerts, residents are advised to take standard precautions: stay hydrated, seek shade during peak hours, and wear appropriate clothing.
The Met Office's long-range forecast indicates next week's warm spell won't develop into a prolonged period of exceptionally hot weather. Britain's changeable climate means whilst warmer conditions are arriving, they're not expected to become extreme.
