American middle-distance runner Jonah Koech has been hit with a three-year ban from athletics for blood doping. The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) confirmed the ban, stating that Koech's doping violation was detected through "highly atypical blood values in his athlete biological passport (ABP)".
Koech, who was the surprise winner of the men's 1500m at last year's US Outdoor Championships, has had his title stripped. USADA announced that the 29-year-old accepted the ban "for the use of a prohibited substance and/or method".
All of Koech's competitive results from 30 July 2025, the date of his first abnormal blood sample, have been disqualified. This includes the forfeiture of any medals, points, and prizes he may have received.
