US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are reportedly scheduled to visit Russia and Ukraine this weekend as part of efforts to end the ongoing conflict. Reports indicate the envoys will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday, followed by talks with Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Sunday, according to Axios, citing US officials.
Witkoff and Kushner have been leading US President Donald Trump's initiatives to broker a peace agreement. While they have reportedly visited Russia multiple times, the purported talks would mark their first visit to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Zelensky stated on Friday that a Russian drone struck the office of Ukraine's security chief Oleksandr Poklad in Kyiv. Zelensky said he had ordered Poklad, who heads the SBU security service, to respond "adequately" to the attack. Poklad appears to be unharmed.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, "I wouldn't announce anything, but when these contacts take place, we will inform you." Meanwhile, President Putin stated on Thursday that "there are chances" a peace deal could be reached, but showed no sign of altering his demands for further territorial concessions from Ukraine.
