A van driver died at the scene in Burscough, West Lancashire, after a collision with a train on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred just after 15:00 BST.
A passenger on the Northern train, Sophie Cassidy, described feeling "lucky to be alive" after the crash. Her daughter sustained a surface wound from flying glass when the door to the train driver's compartment was damaged.
All passengers remained on the train for at least two hours before being led to safety by the fire service. British Transport Police (BTP) stated that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened. Two people were treated for injuries at the scene.
