Eastbourne Pier fire extinguished after accidental blaze

Eastbourne Pier was evacuated on Sunday after a fire broke out at the landmark. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) was called to the pier at about 10:30 BST.

Six crews, including an aerial ladder platform, were at the scene, and both gas and electrics were isolated. Firefighters used breathing apparatus and foam to tackle the blaze.

By about 11:20 BST, ESFRS stated the fire had been extinguished. It was confirmed around midday that the blaze was started accidentally. People were urged to avoid the area to allow emergency services to work.

Transport analytics company Inrix reported that Grand Parade was partially blocked in both directions, causing slow-moving traffic due to the emergency response.
