Vessev has developed the VS-9, an electric hydrofoil ferry that operates by lifting its hull above the water, which is intended to increase efficiency. The VS-9 uses wing-like structures, or foils, under the hull to achieve this, with computer-controlled flaps maintaining a smooth and stable ride.
The company manufactures its electric motors in-house, with batteries being the only component not built by Vessev. This design is particularly suited for waterways like lakes, rivers, and bays, where waves are typically not higher than 0.75 metres.
Vessev aims to target transit operations, with the potential to augment urban mass transit systems by offering a comfortable and cost-effective way to transport people. Hotels and tour operators are also considered early target markets. While the VS-9 is currently a single prototype, Vessev plans to build more, and may later offer electric hydrofoil kits to other boatbuilders.
