A Victorian detective senior constable has been charged with common assault by the state's corruption watchdog, the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (Ibac). The charge relates to an alleged incident in October 2025 in Ballarat.
Ibac alleges the detective senior constable unlawfully punched and kicked a teenager multiple times while the teen was handcuffed and compliant following an arrest. The teenager was under 18 years old at the time of the alleged incident.
The police officer is expected to appear before Ballarat magistrates court on 26 October. This marks the fourth time in five weeks that Ibac has charged a Victorian police officer with assault.
