Voice actor Mike McFarland, best known for his English voice roles as Master Roshi in Dragon Ball and Buggy the Clown in One Piece, has died at the age of 56 following a battle with brain cancer.
Mr McFarland died on Wednesday from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, while surrounded by friends and family at a care facility in Dallas. His friend and fellow voice actor Brina Palencia confirmed the news.
He began his career in anime dubbing in 1997, becoming one of the first voice actors in Texas hired by Funimation Entertainment. His extensive credits also included Jean Kirstein in Attack on Titan and Jean Havoc in Fullmetal Alchemist, as well as voice work in video games such as World of Warcraft.
Mr McFarland's illness became public in January 2025 after doctors discovered a brain tumour, leading to his withdrawal from Central Florida Comic Con. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma in August 2025 following multiple surgeries.
