Rugby player Charlie Atkinson has spoken about the moment Wasps went into administration in October 2022, resulting in players losing their jobs. Atkinson, who had been with the club since childhood, said he had seen rumours on social media but had not heard anything from the owner or CEO.

He unknowingly played in Wasps' final game, a 40-36 defeat by Northampton, three days after his 21st birthday. The news that their jobs were gone was broken to the players the following Tuesday or Wednesday.

Following Wasps' administration, Gloucester and Harlequins approached Atkinson. He subsequently signed with Leicester Tigers after meeting with Steve Borthwick, who offered a longer deal.
