Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney, who recently shared the pitch for England in their 6-4 World Cup third-place play-off victory against France, will be reunited on Tuesday in Riyadh. The forwards are set to clash in the first major Saudi Pro League match of the season between title hopefuls Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli.

Watkins has joined Al-Hilal, while Toney arrived at Al-Ahli two years ago. Toney ended his first season with 23 league goals and an Asian Champions League title, followed by 32 league goals and a second Asian triumph in his second season. He has already scored four goals in three games this season.

England's head coach, Thomas Tuchel, is expected to follow the match closely. He will be observing the two forwards as they vie to become the clear understudy to Harry Kane, marking the beginning of a new international cycle.

Al-Hilal, Watkins' new club, has a history of success with record hauls at home and in Asia. They have started the season strongly, scoring nine goals in their first two league games. Watkins, at 30, was reportedly signed for just over £50m.

Why this matters: The match offers a direct comparison between two English forwards, potentially influencing their standing for future international call-ups under Thomas Tuchel.
