Waymo has restarted its robotaxi service in San Antonio, Texas, five months after operations were suspended following a flash flood. In April, one of the company's robotaxis was swept away during heavy flooding, and multiple vehicles became stuck.
The company issued a recall in May and restricted its robotaxis from driving in areas with an elevated risk of flooding. Waymo also briefly paused operations in other Texas cities, but those services have since resumed.
The resumed service in San Antonio will cover a 60-mile area, including downtown and the San Antonio International Airport, using dozens of vehicles. Waymo has stated that software changes have been made to improve the robotaxis' ability to detect and avoid standing water.
