  • After personal struggles, a mystery donor paid for his enrolment and travel at the London School of Barbering.
  • Mr Savani now styles clients including Karan Aujla, Divine, and Yuvraj Singh, and has written a book with profits going to Moorfields Eye Hospital.

A celebrity hairdresser from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, has spoken about rebuilding his life and career after experiencing vision loss. JJ Savani, 37, attributes a significant turning point to a mystery donor who funded his barbering course.

Mr Savani's eyesight began to decline gradually before becoming acute in 2017, when he was diagnosed with a severe case of keratoconus. He underwent a corneal transplant at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, which improved his vision but left him partially sighted.

Following personal difficulties, including a breakdown in his marriage and losing his home and career, Mr Savani received an unexpected message from the London School of Barbering stating he was enrolled on a course and his travel was paid for. He has never identified the anonymous donor.

After completing a three-week refresher course, Mr Savani opened his own business and developed a unique cutting style to accommodate his eye condition. He now works internationally, styling clients such as singer and rapper Karan Aujla, songwriter and rapper Divine, and cricketer Yuvraj Singh.

Mr Savani has also authored a book about his craft, titled 'Positioned', with all profits directed to Moorfields Eye Hospital to support further research and development.
