Welsh Water, the largest water and sewerage company in Wales, has announced a significant investment of £617 million in improving its infrastructure. The investment will see upgrades to existing treatment works, new construction projects, and enhancements to operational performance.
The improvements are aimed at ensuring that Welsh Water's services continue to meet growing demand and regulatory requirements. In addition to meeting the needs of Wales' increasing population, the investments will also contribute to reducing environmental impact and enhancing public health.
Welsh Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths, welcomed the investment, stating: 'This significant investment demonstrates Welsh Water's commitment to delivering high-quality services to its customers while protecting the environment.'
The investment will be funded through a combination of shareholder funding and debt. The company has stated that it is committed to reducing its environmental impact, with a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2025.
